Google Pagerank vs Traffic Rank

People often confuse Pagerank and traffic rank and I’ll explain the difference e between the two below.

Page Rank

Pagerank is a numeric value that represents how important a page is on the web. Google figures that when one page links to another page, it is effectively casting a vote for the other page. The more votes that are cast for a page, the more important the page must be.

Thus each website gets a pagerank from google after about 3 month of going live and this value is only revised and changed on a 3 month interval. There are allot of factors influencing this number and although people claim to know, no one for sure knows that algorithm google uses to calculate this.

What definitely plays a major role is how many websites with a pr google link to you. Thus if there are allot of good PR (4 and up) linking to your website, Google will view your site with more importance and thus move up your pagerank. Most websites start off with a pagerank from 1-3 and climbing from 3 to 4 or even 5 can take long time.

Traffic Rank

Your pagerank does play a role in your traffic rank, but it must be stated that these are 2 totally separate ranking models. Your traffic rank is where you physically rank on google. Thus for a specific keyword you must be nr 7 (First page) out of 349,800 results. Then you traffic rank is 7.
To increase your traffic rank, you have to keep your website fresh with new content and setup links from good PR websites.
